7 steps to meditate

Would you like to know my 7 steps to meditate?

Many of you have asked me how to meditate.

“How do I start?”

So I’ll share 7 steps to start to meditate. So you can do it at home or any place you feel at comfort.

Surely you don’t master how to meditate in one day, from day to tomorrow. To get the most out of this practice is to acknowledge that it is a process.

You need to focus on your posture. And to find a moment during the day you can devote to. Plan some “me-time”. But most importantly consistency is the key. Just like with your workout regimen, if you do not exercise consistently you will not get the most out of it. So are you ready to learn about my 7 steps to start to meditate.

1.) Wear comfortable clothes.

Because it’s important to be in the moment and really embrace the present, you would like to feel as comfortable as possible. Wearing comfortable clothes helps me to feel at ease and more relaxed. I also like to take of my shoes, any jewelry, my watch etc. making me feel as comfortable as possible.

2). Choose a quiet and comfortable place

I like to minimize as many distractions as possible and really reconnect with myself. Find a cozy and quiet place in your home or outside where you are not being disturbed. Remember this is your time to connect with yourself. It can be in your bedroom for example where you can play some relaxing music and feel protected. Or in your garden or on a quiet and peaceful side around the sea.

3). Be aware of your posture

You can meditate while standing or sitting, it’s up to you. I personally like to sit. One tip, make sure you are sitting in a position in which you can optimally breathe. Posture and breathing are essential to meditation. But most importantly don’t worry too much about your posture either, just make sure it comes naturally and you feel comfortable and in an active posture. You can sit for example in a half or full lotus position, legs crossed, chin and shoulders up and your back straight for an optimal energy flow.

4) Breathing

Try to breathe naturally and follow your breathing. Pay attention to what’s happening. Absorb the present moment. Feel grateful. Notice the sensations that flow through your body, from your belly all the way through the rest of your body.

5) accept your thoughts

When you feel at ease, all sorts of emotions and thoughts may pop-up. Don’t be judgemental about them. Simply acknowledge them and observe you have them and keep relaxing and keep focussed on your breathing and follow the music you set up.

6) Keep the silence

I like the awareness I feel during silence. The feeling not say just to let be.

7) Meditate progressively

Simply start slowly, a few minutes a day and slowly build it up to more minutes. If you take 15 minutes out of your day consistently you will surely start to see the benefits of this practice.

You deserve some “me-time”!

Good luck,

Susana
